Travel tips for Pattaya - Koh Mak

  • Be ready at the meeting point around 30–60 minutes before departure. If hotel pick-up is included, check the scheduled pick-up time and whether your accommodation is within the service area, as the pick-up time may differ from the main departure time.
  • Pay particular attention to the departure pier in Trat, as boats to different islands may leave from different piers. Always confirm the pier name in your Booking Confirmation before traveling.
  • The Pattaya–Trat section involves several hours of road travel, so keep drinking water, snacks, tissues, personal medication, a power bank, and a light jacket in your carry-on bag rather than packing everything in your main luggage.
  • When transferring from the vehicle to the boat, reconfirm the boat name, waiting area, and boarding time with the staff, especially if passengers traveling to Koh Kood or Koh Chang are using the same pier area around the same time.
  • If you can choose your seat and are prone to seasickness, the middle section of the boat is generally more comfortable than the bow, where wave impact may feel stronger. Consider taking motion sickness medication according to the recommended instructions before boarding.
  • Check the operator’s baggage allowance, size limits, and permitted number of bags, and attach a clear name label to your luggage. Keep your phone, cash, documents, and valuables in a carry-on bag or waterproof pouch.
  • Koh Mak is not a very large island, but accommodations are spread across several beach areas. Before traveling, inform your resort of your accommodation name and boat service and ask whether a pier transfer is available or how you should continue from the arrival point.
  • One of the highlights of Koh Mak is that it is relatively easy to explore around the island, with beaches, coconut and rubber plantations, and areas where you can experience local island life. You may also be able to continue to Koh Kham or other nearby marine areas, depending on weather conditions and the services operating at the time.
  • Before leaving Pattaya, recheck the weather, boat service status, and connection time between the vehicle and boat, especially during Green Season. Services to Koh Mak can be affected by sea conditions and seasonality, so allow extra time and avoid scheduling activities immediately after arrival.
