Travel tips for Koh Yao Yai - Koh Lanta

  • You can travel from Koh Yao Yai to Koh Lanta by speedboat, with some services taking approximately 2–2.5 hours, depending on the operator and passenger pick-up and drop-off points along the route.
  • Koh Yao Yai has several departure piers. Check the pier name on your booking confirmation carefully, as each pier is located in a different area and may serve different boat routes.
  • If you are staying in the southern part of Koh Yao Yai, allow sufficient time to reach your designated departure pier, as the island is relatively large and some roads pass through local villages, which may make the journey longer than expected.
  • Some boat services may stop at Koh Yao Noi or Koh Phi Phi before continuing to Koh Lanta. Check the scheduled stops and confirm whether you need to change boats along the way.
  • If you book a combined transfer and ferry ticket, check whether hotel pick-up on Koh Yao Yai is included, along with any luggage transfer conditions, to avoid additional charges on your travel date.
  • Upon arrival on Koh Lanta, most passengers disembark at Saladan Pier, located near shops and accommodations in the northern part of the island. This is a convenient area to arrange transportation or take a break before continuing to another destination.
  • If you plan to continue your journey from Koh Lanta to Koh Lipe, check the ferry schedules departing from Saladan Pier and the seasonal operating periods, as this is a long-distance route and connecting services may not align with your arrival time.
  • If you plan to visit Nui Bay or Klong Jark Beach in the southern part of Koh Lanta, arrange transportation from the pier in advance, as these locations are far from Saladan Pier and some sections of the road are hilly.
  • Arrive at your designated departure pier on Koh Yao Yai at least 30–60 minutes before departure to allow enough time for check-in, ticket verification, and luggage preparation. Check the operator's baggage allowance and restrictions in advance.
  • If you are traveling during the monsoon season, check the ferry schedules and sea conditions in advance, as some services between Koh Yao Yai and Koh Lanta operate seasonally and may be suspended, particularly between June and September.
