Travel tips for Phuket - Ao Nang

  • The Phuket to Ao Nang route is a good option for travelers who want to move from a large and lively island destination to the more relaxed seaside atmosphere of Ao Nang in Krabi. Once there, Ao Nang works well as a base for exploring Railay, Poda Island, the Four Islands area, and other nearby destinations.
  • Compared with the Phuket to Krabi route, it is especially important to check the final drop-off point. If your actual destination is a hotel in Ao Nang, choosing a service that continues directly to Ao Nang or includes a transfer there is usually more convenient than ending in Krabi Town and arranging another vehicle yourself.
  • Before booking, check whether the journey is a direct boat service or includes stops or boat changes along the way. Routes and schedules can vary by operator and season, so it is worth looking beyond just the departure and arrival times.
  • If your accommodation in Phuket is in Patong, Kata, Karon, Phuket Old Town, or another area far from the pier, check whether hotel pick-up is included. If you need to reach the pier on your own, allow extra time for Phuket traffic, especially in the morning, on holidays, and during High Season.
  • Depending on the operator and schedule, this route may use either a ferry or speedboat. Ferries can be more convenient for travelers with several pieces of luggage because they generally offer more space, while speedboats provide a more agile travel experience but may feel bumpier when sea conditions are rough.
  • One of the advantages of staying in Ao Nang is that you do not need to change hotels every time you want to explore another island. Ao Nang is a major departure point for one-day trips and island-hopping tours, allowing you to explore nearby islands during the day and return to your accommodation in the evening.
  • If you plan to continue to Railay Beach, allow extra time, as Railay is surrounded by limestone cliffs and is mainly accessed by boat. Arriving in Ao Nang may therefore not be the end of your journey, so plan the local boat transfer and luggage handling in advance, especially if you have large bags.
  • If you are traveling with luggage, check the operator’s baggage allowance, permitted number of bags, size limits, and other baggage conditions. Keep your passport, phone, cash, power bank, and valuables in a carry-on bag, and consider using a waterproof pouch or dry bag for items that should stay dry.
  • During the Andaman Green Season, keep your plans flexible, as rain, wind, and sea conditions may affect departure times or the type of vessel used. Avoid making very tight connections if you have an important activity planned after arriving in Ao Nang.
  • If you are prone to seasickness, consider taking motion sickness medication before departure and choosing a seat in a more stable area of the boat if possible. When traveling by speedboat, secure loose belongings before departure, especially on days when the sea is rough.
  • When arriving in Ao Nang, check whether your package includes a transfer from the boat drop-off point to your hotel. The term “Ao Nang” on your ticket may refer to a pier, meeting point, or designated transfer area and does not always mean that every service includes direct hotel drop-off.
  • Before departure, review your Booking Confirmation again for the departure pier in Phuket, check-in time, departure time, arrival point, and transfer details. We recommend arriving at the check-in point around 30–60 minutes before departure, especially during High Season when passenger numbers and luggage volumes are higher.
