Travel tips for Phuket - Koh Lanta

  • If you want to move from lively Phuket to a slower and more relaxing island experience, the Phuket to Koh Lanta route is a great option. Koh Lanta is known for its long beaches, laid-back atmosphere, and suitability for multi-night stays rather than quick day trips.
  • Koh Lanta is a relatively large island, so check the location of your accommodation before choosing a boat service. Arriving on the island does not mean you have reached your resort, and properties in the southern part of Koh Lanta may require a fairly long road transfer from the arrival point.
  • Depending on the operator and service, the journey from Phuket may include scheduled passenger pick-up and drop-off stops along the route. Review the full itinerary before booking, especially the total journey time and whether a boat change is required, rather than looking only at the departure time from Phuket.
  • If you plan to continue from Koh Lanta to Koh Phi Phi, Koh Ngai, Koh Mook, Koh Kradan, or other destinations farther south in the Andaman Sea, plan your route in advance. Koh Lanta works well as a stop on an island-hopping itinerary, but services to smaller islands may vary by season.
  • If you are traveling with several bags, pack so that your luggage is easy to lift and move, and check the operator’s baggage allowance and permitted number of bags. Keep your phone, documents, cash, personal medication, and electronic devices in a separate carry-on bag.
  • During Green Season, check both the boat schedule and the activities you plan to do on Koh Lanta. Some marine services operate differently from High Season, and wind or sea conditions may require changes to your island-hopping plans. It is useful to have a few land-based activities as alternatives.
  • After arriving on Koh Lanta, avoid rushing straight into another sea tour. Use your first day for check-in, rest, and exploring the area around your accommodation, then plan marine activities for the following day, especially after spending several hours traveling by boat from Phuket.
  • Before leaving Phuket, review your departure pier, check-in time, intermediate stops or boat changes, arrival point on Koh Lanta, and transfer arrangements to your accommodation in your Booking Confirmation. We recommend arriving at the check-in point around 30–60 minutes before departure.
