Travel tips for Phi Phi Islands - Koh Lanta

  • Before travelling, carefully check the departure and arrival pier names stated in your Booking Confirmation. Always follow the details of your booked service, as arrangements may vary depending on the operator.
  • Check the boat type before booking and again before travelling, as this route may be operated by either Speedboat or standard Ferry. A larger ferry may offer more space and a smoother ride, while some Speedboat services may have a shorter journey time.
  • It is recommended to arrive at the check-in point at least 30–60 minutes before departure, especially during the High Season, public holidays, or festival periods.
  • If your accommodation is far from Tonsai Pier, ask your hotel in advance how long it takes to reach the pier and whether luggage assistance is available, as transportation on Koh Phi Phi is mainly by walking or long-tail boat from some bays.
  • If you are travelling with luggage, check the operator’s luggage weight and baggage allowance, as the conditions may differ between Speedboat and Ferry services. Pack your bags so they are easy to carry on and off the boat.
  • Keep your mobile phone, passport, travel documents, wallet, power bank, personal medication, and valuables in a small bag with you, as larger luggage may be stored together with other passengers’ bags.
  • If travelling by Speedboat, keep your mobile phone, documents, and electronic devices in a waterproof bag or protective pouch, as seawater may splash onto passengers while boarding, getting off, or during the journey, especially on rough-sea days.
  • Before leaving your accommodation, check the latest weather conditions, sea conditions, and operator announcements, as rough seas may cause delays, schedule changes, or cancellations even though Koh Phi Phi and Koh Lanta are relatively close to each other.
  • Passengers who are prone to seasickness should prepare or take motion sickness medication according to the medication instructions, eat a light meal before travelling, and avoid sitting near the bow of a Speedboat when sea conditions are rough.
  • If your hotel on Koh Lanta provides a pier pick-up service, inform them of the boat service name, operator, and estimated arrival time in advance. It is also recommended to allow extra time for possible delays rather than arranging a pick-up exactly at the scheduled arrival time.
  • Avoid scheduling activities, diving trips, long-distance transfers, or onward travel immediately after the scheduled arrival time. Some Speedboat services may take around 30 minutes and some ferries around 1 hour, but the actual journey time may vary depending on sea conditions and the operator’s service arrangements.
  • On the day of travel, save your Booking Confirmation or E-ticket for offline access on your phone and double-check the passenger name, travel date, check-in time, operator, and destination in case the internet connection at the pier is unstable.
