Tonsai elephant sanctuary was a wonderful experience overall. We did the 6 hour full package where we prepared the food, fed the elephants, went on a hike with them, observed them get in the water and bathe, gave them a mud bath and bathed them. It was so wonderful. The elephants seem to really enjoy all of it and seemed happy and at peace during the whole experience. The staff there  all really care and have a beautiful relationship with the elephants. It is genuine and observable. It was very special to watch. Sugar, one of the elephant trainers was very nice and very informative and took great photos and a few videos of our experience ( with her professional camera and with our iPhones) . And the photos we purchased from
Them were great shots and  were very affordable. They were easily airdropped to use at the end. 

After spending time with the elephants and getting dirty in the mud and water while bathing them, we were able to take showers and prepare for our cooking class. 

We then had a cooking class where we prepared a 4 course meal (tom yum soup, pad Thai, chicken with cashew , veggie spring rolls). What a treat that was! Fresh yummy Thai ingredients and foods to complement our experience. The staff there are friendly, happy and welcoming. It was wild to cook all of that and have some of the animals including the elephants casually roaming around happily. I would definitely recommend this to anyone and I would also come back , as this up close and personal experience with such amazing animals and support staff is one of a kind and very special. 

We were picked up and dropped off at our Airbnb which was about an hour away. All included in the price. Beautiful and unique experience. Would highly recommend!

Saw the elephants being prodded to make it do things, even though it states they will not force the elephants into anything. Clearly not the sanctuary it is claiming to be.

Don’t visit

Excellent place, very efficient, very calm, no rush. They transported me back and forth from my hotel. They give water, then you chop food and feed the elephants. You take a walk for the elephants to eat some leaves and then they give you time to change your clothing. 

You will get wet, and if you are standing in the wrong place, the elephant with shower you with mud but it was all fun. You give the elephant a mud bath, rinse in the lake and then a shower. Then you have time to take a shower and enjoy some fruits. 

They have 4 elephants and a baby. The elephants follow commands and there is no riding or hooks or hitting. The people who work there are very nice and it was a great experience. Very close to Patong Beach, which is where my hotel was located. I went at 11:00am and it was not crowded but when I left at 1:00 there were a lot more people. So maybe go early and have fun!

Staff were brilliant and very engaging. Professional photos taken for an Extra 300 baht at the end, very reasonable for the 90+ photos. Very ethical practice. 

We had an amazing day with the elephants, finished off with a wonderful meal

Interaction with elephants was great, and they seem very well looked after.
Unfortunately the tour guides didn't speak very much English, and there was no information presented during the visit. The guides just spoke amongst themselves in Thai
