Very disappointed with the lady singer. She was focused on playing text messaging on her note pad when singing. Very disrespectful on paying customers onboard.

Disappointing lady singer onboard

This is the worst dinner cruise ever. I almost jumped off the boat. The band started off playing good music for a hour up the river. On the way back down they started playing Thai songs for only 1 table that was celebrating a birthday. The rest of the boat of the 20 other families were tortured with the Thai rock music for over a hour. As far as the food it was OK, I would have preferred McDonalds. I wish I could contact the owner to personally let him know how his crew wasted 2 hours of my life. Please don't go on this dinner crews.

The Worst Dinner Cruise Ever

My travelling buddy & I decided to try the Chao Phraya River Cruise. I did some research & decided on the River Star Princess Cruise. 

Tickets are priced at THB1400 for adults & THB1100 for children below 9 years old. However, we had used the help of Renown Travel Agency & bought the tickets online for THB950 each. The fee includes Thai, Japanese & International Buffet Dinner, Thai classical performance & live band music & the 2-hour long River Star Princess Cruise trip. Vegetarian meals are available too but please notify them in advance when you make the purchase. 

We were advised by the travel agent to leave early as traffic might be horrendous considering it was the weekend. We left at 4:40 pm as we didn’t know how far the Yod Pimarn River Walk Pier was from our Hotel. Surprisingly, we arrived in 20 minutes as it was actually very near & there was very little traffic. We had 1 hour to kill as the check-in time starts at 6 pm. Hence, we went to Starbucks for coffee. 

When the time came to register, we went to Pier 3 to register. Pier 1 & 2 are for different cruise liners. Upon showing our digital receipt, we were given a sticker which acted like a pass. The hostess, a young Thai woman in traditional costume then pinned a wild orchid corsage on our shirt. Then, came the photo-taking by their in-house photographer. The photos will be developed & sold to you for THB200 a copy towards the end of your cruise in the cruise liner. Suggest that you bring a thumb drive so that you could ask for the soft copy as well.

We boarded the ship at 7:10 pm. All of us were ushered to the top open air deck. We were assigned to our tables. It was quite disappointing as our table was at the back & near the staircase. The ship started to leave the pier at 7:30 pm when the buffet line in the middle of the ship was ready. I was seasick at first due to the buoyancy but recovered later.

A welcome drink was given to each. Since we were Muslims, we stayed away from any meat dishes although the chef had kindly pointed out which dish had pork or bacon in them. I started with dessert as it was closest to our table & there weren’t many people around it. The Thai desserts were exceptionally sweet. We had more of the sushi as they were safe for religious consumption. However, they finished pretty fast too. In short, the buffet spread had good varieties but tasted only average. My favourite was the mashed potato, pumpkin soup & garlic bread. 

The live band was ok. Truthfully, the male singer shouldn’t sing English songs as his pronunciation was off. The female singer was better. But the choice of songs were old. However, I did enjoy the Thai cultural dance & even took photos with the dancers. 

I had the wrong expectation of the cruise. I was under the impression that there would be someone alerting & giving us information on the monumental sights that we would be passing by. It wasn’t so. We were there to enjoy the sights on our own while eating dinner. And that was it. Hence, I would encourage future cruisers to read up on the buildings that they will be seeing beforehand. Some of the sights include churches, temples, a university, the Royal Grand Palace, the Rama VIII Bridge, 5-star hotels, the Icon Siam Pier & the Asiatique Riverfront. And towards, the end of the cruise, the hostess will appear at your table & would try to get you to purchase your photos. I felt sorry for her & paid for ours. Unfortunately, for her, she had missed a step & had fallen down the staircase later on just before boarding out. So, please be careful when you go down the stairs. They were steep. I would advise you to go to the washroom which was at the bottom deck as it could take a while to get a taxi back home. The toilet was very clean & it came with a hand bidet too.

The nearby flower market was still open when we boarded out from the ship. There were many sellers too at that hour. Taxis were aplenty but we found it hard to find one that would take us back to our Hotel. Perhaps, it was too near for them.

Overall, it was an OK trip. The buildings along the Chao Phraya River looked beautiful & some even came across as being mysterious. Just make sure that your camera or handphone has enough battery for all the photo-taking.

Excellent service to discover Bangkok in a magical way. The buffet is quite satisfying (except dessert. Apart from the fruits that are always excellent, the pastries are very disappointing but it is forgivable:). The setting is sublime. The reception is very nice. We had a stormy evening. The result was even more impressive!

The best in Bangkok. Beautiful brand new ship. Great variety of tasty buffet including roasted duck & chicken, grilled large shrimp, mussels & squid, sushi & sashimi stations. Impeccable services. Definitely a must have experience here in Bangkok. 

Sea food was wonderful. Would have loved to see more Thai cultural events than only the live music.
